“Buddies & Buddies” - Peer Support Service on Hidden Drug Users (namely, “Buddies”) Service / Social Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention Service
 
Service Brief
 

“ Buddies”is a territory-wide service which is supported by the Beat Drugs Fund covering the period from May 2019 to April 2022. A series of participative and transformative activities and trainings are provided for the ex-drug users and active drug users.

The project provides outreaching service by peer supporters and trained active drug users to identify hidden and resistant drug users. Moreover, peer supporters and drug users are involved in planning and coordinating prosocial recreation activities, to explore and utilize users’ strengths, and hence strengthen their social network, well-being and motivation for drug rehabilitation.

To increase users’ ability to cope with stress in the aftercare phase to prevent relapse, mutual help group with peer supporters and rehabilitating drug users are provided. Through social media or human library hub with rehabilitated drug users’ sharing, the social acceptance can be enhanced to let users transform as assets in society and pursue their aspirations.

  1. Through drug users and peer supporters’ participation, their identities will be transformed into service provider and help connect hidden drug users.
  2. Drug users increased their motivation to quit drug through identity transformation and users’participation, and pursue their good lives as asset in society.

Scope of Service

 

Outreach service
Peer supporters participate in outreach services to identify hidden and resistant drug users.

Drug users group
Peer supporters collaborate with drugs users to plan activities and volunteer services, in order to develop drug users’ talent and increase their motivation to quit drug.

Peer Program
Peer supporters collaborate with rehabilitating drug users to launch mutual help group and increase their ability to cope with stress in the aftercare phase to prevent relapse.

Community education
Rehabilitated drug users share their rehabilitation experiences through social media and human library hub, thereby promoting social integration.

Service Withdrawal
 
Service can be terminated upon worker’s professional judgment and mutual agreement made with the service users. Service users may terminate service voluntarily at any juncture of the service process.
