Mercury III Intensive Support and Preventive Programme for AIDS and Blood Borne Diseases Service / Social Rehab. & Crime Prevention Service
 
Health Education Service consists of four projects of “Mercury III Intensive Support and Preventive Programme for AIDS and Blood-borne Disease” funded by AIDS Trust Fund and “Primary Health Care Service”. “Body-Mind- Spirit Approach” is adopted as the intervention model to provide holistic care to target service users.
 
Missions
 
The spirit of Mercury III is to deliver preventive education with initiative care to the target populations.
 
Target Service Users
 
- Prisoners
- Drug abusers (including non-Chinese)
- Sex industry workers and their clients
 
Scope of Services
 
1. Project Together We Care Hearts Behind Bars - Health Education for the Inmates :

- To provide AIDS and Blood Borne Diseases prevention and education services for the Inmates under custody of Correctional Service Department and Immigration Department.
- Include health talks, intensive groups and mass educational programmes.
- Services cover 17 correctional institutions and the Immigration Centre, for both male, female as well as adults and youth.

 
2. Project HotspotsTracking - Health Education for the Drug Abusers :

- To adopt Harm Reduction Approach through outreach service at gathering places or treatment and rehabilitation agencies of Chinese drug abusers.
- To train ex-drug abusers to be peer educators to render one-on-one AIDS prevention education.

      

 
3. Project Care Mobile Net- Health Education Service for the Sex Industry Workers and Clients :

- To provide AIDS and blood borne diseases prevention education services for the male and female sex workers through outreach and mutual support groups.
- To provide AIDS and blood borne diseases prevention education services for the sex worker clients by e-outreach, mutual aid groups as well as outreach to brothel and cross border bus station.
- Free condom distribution

      

 
4. Project PEER (Prevention Education through Ethnicity Rapport) - Health Education Project for the Non-Chinese  :

- To provide AIDS and blood borne diseases prevention education services for the non-Chinese ethnic communuty, including drugabusers, youth-at-risk, female sex workers and sex worker clients through outreach, support and educational group and mass community programs.
- To train community members to be peer educators to deliver the cultural sensitive service.

      

 
5. Voluntary Counseling and Testing Service  :

- To provide free, confidential and anonymous Voluntary Counseling andTesting service on HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C antibody by trained staffs.
- To provide pre and post-test counseling.
- Referral and escort service are available.
