Becoming our Volunteers

We welcome individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. Because of the nature of our services delivered at some premises such as penal institutions, Magistrates' Courts etc. and our serving clienteles, we have the following requirements for being our volunteers.  
 
      Volunteer Requirements

- Volunteers must be at 18 years of age, unless accompanied by an adult at all times. But some volunteer opportunities only be available for volunteers aged 18 or above
- Mature personality
- Willing to complete relevant training programme organized by SRACP workers before participating in the volunteer service
 
      Volunteer Training Programme

The training programme involves two stages of training with contents listed below:
 
All volunteers are required to complete the basic training (stage 1). Should any volunteer be interested to participate in a particular service setting, he or she must join a relevant training programme of stage 2.

Stage 1 Basic Training
  Service introduction of SRACP & Volunteer Service like VIP, BB & CSWS
Criminal psychology,
Code of behavior of volunteers,
Understanding the SRACP service users (feelings of family members, and importance of family support).
Stage 2 VIP Volunteer Training (for serving offenders/ex-offenders )
  

Skill of running mass programs and groups in penal institutions,
Communication skills with offenders,
Available resources for offenders/ex-offenders and their families,

“DOs” and “DON’Ts” for serving offenders

Stage 2 Blue Bus Volunteer Training (for working with families of offenders or ex-offenders)
  

Understanding of the Children & Family of Offenders,
Serving Children & Family of Offenders,
Communication skills with Children of Offenders ,

“DOs” and “DON’Ts” of serving Children & Family of Offenders

Stage 2 Court Social Work Service Volunteer Training (for working at Magistrates' Courts)
  

Understanding Laws & Court Procedures,
Serving defendants in Courts,
Communication skills with defendants in Courts ,

“DOs” and “DON’Ts” of serving defendants in Courts.

 
Volunteer Training Programme for Co-working with Rehabilitated Ex-offenders
Training programmes will be held for community volunteers to participate in services serving other service recipients such as elderly, mentally-handicapped together with rehabilitated ex-offenders.
 
      Volunteer Service Opportunities
 

Services for Prisoners & Ex-Offenders
Volunteers who have completed VIP Volunteer Training would be arranged to serve Prisoners in penal institutions of Correctional Services Department (CSD) (including Mass Programmes and Group Services). Volunteers who showed their commitment and capability would be recommended joining the mentor training and serving as mentors of ex-offenders.

Volunteer Groups such as corporate volunteers could be arranged to serve in a mass programme in a CSD institution upon completion of a training workshop of not less than 6 hours.  

 
Services for Children of Offenders
Volunteers who have completed Blue Bus Volunteer Training would be arranged to serve Children of Offenders (including tutorial services, mass programmes and group services).
 
Services for Defendants in Courts
Volunteers who have completed Court Social Work Service Volunteer Training would be arranged to serve Defendants in Magistrates' Courts.
 
Services for other Service Recipients
Volunteers who have completed only the Basic Volunteer Training would be invited to serve other Service Recipients together with our rehabilitated ex-offender volunteers after completing the Volunteer Training Programme for Co-working with Rehabilitated Ex-offenders
