The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong visits SOUK housing (18.5.2018)

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, met and chatted with the SOUK housing residents.

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, visited SOUK housing unit of the Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention, Hong Kong, in Yau Ma Tei on 18th May, 2018 to learn the rationale and implementation schedule of the project and to be guided around the unit facilities. During the visit, Dr. Law chatted with the residents there to have understanding on the living conditions and to get feedbacks and views from the rehabilitated persons.

To provide transitional housing for rehabilitated persons with a lower than market rent, SOUK housing project aims to cooperate with suitable tenants and seek the voluntary help of architects on the design of flats. The project launched in July 2017 and has served 10 residents since the commencement of project. The third SOUK unit is due for completion in August 2018.

The purposes of SOUK housing unit include:

  1. To provide a better living environment for rehabilitated persons
  2. To boost the self- confidence of rehabilitated persons
  3. To encourage and help the rehabilitated persons to reintegrate into society
  4. To help rehabilitated persons through collective efforts from different stakeholders in the society
