Blue Bus Sharing of LOVE Service / Social Rehab. & Crime Prevention Service
 
Objectives
  • To render emotional and social support to children and youth of incarcerated/ offended parents
  • To build up resilience of children and youth from negative impacts of parental imprisonment
  • To counteract the negative cycles of criminal influence in these families
  • To resolve children and youth’s adjustment difficulties during the imprisonment of their significant family members
  • To strengthen the constant and regular inmate-family connection in order to enhance positive family relationship

- Children and youth whose parents are inmates/ offenders (age 25 or below)

Scope of Services
 
Children and youth counseling
  In response to emotional response and changes in living arrangement upon parents’ imprisonment, Blue Bus – Sharing of LOVE provides intensive counseling and service referrals to children including follow-up on emotions, rebuilding of parent-child relationship and tangible services (such as referrals to residential service).
Therapeutic palmy sessions
  Through the means of play and art, the negative emotions of children are handled. They are helped to build up confidence to face with the family changes.
Mentorship Program
  Mentor who are well trained community volunteers or youngsters who previously were service receivers can establish a supportive relationship with the children and provide advice when necessary. Mentors are facilitated to show concerns on the children and youth daily lives and helped them to face the difficulties arouse from the absence of a parent who is imprisoned.
Crime prevention Programs
  A wide spectrum of crime prevention activities and visits are organized to develop healthy and positive mentality of children to withstand adverse criminal influence from their living situation.
Parental Workshops
  Parental workshops are organized to facilitate parents and carers to learn skills in relating and communicating with their children.
Transportation Allowance for Prison Visit
  Most of the penal institutions of Correctional Services Department (CSD) are located far away from urban area with high travelling expenditure that creates a huge barrier to prison visit. On the other hand, a majority of the families of prisoners came from grass-root. Finance is also a problem they faced. For this regard, transportation allowance will be granted to the needy. Financial need assessment must be conducted. It is hoped that strengthening the constant and regular inmate-family connection which can smooth family re-union in the future.
Prison Visit Escort Service
 

Most of the prisons are located in the remote area, it is difficult for the family members especially the aged and the young children to pay prison visit for their imprisoned members. In order to facilitate connections between the family with special needs and their imprisoned members, escort service of prison visit will be solicited. Our trained volunteer/staff will render direct assistance and emotional support especially for children, elderly and/or disabled through prison visitation escorts. It not only contributes in the process of family re-union, but also provides a positive social supportive network to these families.

Indeed, this service is solely provided by our unit in Hong Kong which is tailor-made for the families with imprisoned members.

Family Recreational programs
  Parents-child relationship and communication is facilitated naturally through family outings and gatherings.

Free of charge for counseling service, and a minimum charge for some programmes.

Application and Withdrawal

Parents or guardian can apply on behalf of the applicant; applicants can also be referred by the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department, the Social Welfare Department, other government agencies, non-profit organizations, or schools.

The service is provided on a voluntary basis. Service users could apply for service termination any time. On the other hand, social workers could also terminate the service upon their professional judgment and mutual agreement made with the service users.
